.Dear Friend,
Congress must pass the SAVE America Act – Americans overwhelmingly want voter ID at the polls and a safe and secure system. House Republicans have already passed the SAVE America Act several times in different versions, but it is being held up in the Senate.
In our third reconciliation bill, we’re structuring the SAVE America Act provisions so that they work with the reconciliation process and the Senate Byrd rule, and thus only require a simple majority to pass the Senate. In the Budget Committee, my colleagues and I crafted the provisions to include expenditures that work with the reconciliation process. This means that alongside the SAVE America Act provisions, we also included support for ag commodities and national defense.
Last week, I led a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune encouraging expeditious action toward finalization and passage of House Republicans’ budget resolution. I was joined by fellow Kansas congressmen Tracey Mann and Derek Schmidt. We wrote about how passage of the budget resolution will allow Congress to move forward in protecting our nation’s election integrity, providing critical support to America’s heartland, and addressing urgent national security concerns. You can read more about our letter to Leader Thune here.
I also joined Washington Watch to discuss the SAVE America Act and the reconciliation process. You can watch my full interview here or by clicking on the image below.
