.As your representative, one of my top priorities is the safety of Kansas families, which begins with a secure border and a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) equipped to fulfill its mission. Washington is currently at a pivotal moment – while the House has acted decisively to support our frontline personnel, unnecessary delays continue to jeopardize our national security. For more than 40 days, the department has faced a partial shutdown due to legislative obstruction. While some essential agencies like ICE and CBP have remained operational through targeted measures, other vital services remain in a state of uncertainty.
On March 27, I joined my colleagues in passing a measure to fully reopen DHS, ensure our personnel are paid, and guarantee that critical operations are resourced. This was the fourth time I’ve voted to fully fund DHS. Our goal is to provide $64.4 billion in discretionary funding for FY2026, focusing on providing agents the technology to stop human trafficking and drug flow, reducing TSA wait times, and ensuring FEMA is ready for emergencies. This plan reinforces our commitment to the men and women on the front lines who work every day to protect our communities and uphold the rule of law.
The House has made its position clear, and I will continue to push for a funding agreement that emphasizes border security and taxpayer accountability. It is time for the Senate to pass a funding agreement that keeps America safe and our infrastructure running smoothly. I remain dedicated to ensuring our country is protected and that the federal government remains focused on its core responsibility – the security of the American people.
