Dear Friend,
On Friday a federal judge prevented the Biden administration from lifting Title 42 protections that were set to expire today, which would have caused an already disastrous southern border to descend further into chaos. In 2019, former Obama administration DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson stated that 1,000 daily border apprehensions were a crisis-level threat. Today we are seeing seven times that amount with an average of 7,000 daily border apprehensions.1
Simply put, liberals have not implemented any policies to address the problem they created at the border, nor have they attempted to reform our broken immigration system.
As a member of the Border Security Caucus, I have seen the condition of our border firsthand and understand the risks to our national security.

Watch a short clip from my fact-finding mission to the southern border.
In April President Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before Congress and was peppered with questions about the crisis at our southern border.
He said, “We have effectively managed an unprecedented number of non-citizens seeking to enter the United States and interdicted more drugs and disrupted more smuggling operations than ever before.” Yet that’s simply not true – DHS has completely mismanaged the crisis, allowing a growing number of illegal immigrants and drugs to flow into our country by ending construction of the border wall, enacting more than 90 executive orders in the first 100 days, and releasing immigrants into the country – making every state a border state.2
He also said, “With the Title 42 public health order set to be lifted, we expect migration levels to increase as smugglers seek to take advantage of and profit from vulnerable migrants.” Yet instead of addressing this issue and extending the order to keep our country safe, the Department of Justice has said it will appeal the Title 42 decision.
The best way to address this crisis is to pass common sense legislation and security measures that empower CBP agents, strengthen our border and fix our immigration system. I’ve urged the House to take up a bill that would prevent the administration from revoking Title 42, visited the southern border to talk directly with CBP agents and supported legislation to tackle this crisis.
The challenges we face at the southern border are one of my top concerns, and I hope you’ll take a minute to respond to my survey so I know how important it is to you.
Sincerely,

Member of Congress
