WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement following the release of the Preventing Swatting and Protecting Our Communities Act, also known as the Finch Memorial Act:

"The swatting incident here in Wichita and others across the country highlight the need for a federal law that addresses these crimes," said Rep. Estes.

"That's why I'm introducing legislation to increase the severity of punishment for these criminals and deter others from participating in this dangerous activity."

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the House Committee on Homeland Security.
