Rep. Estes has advocated for transportation projects in south central Kansas that encourage commerce and travel in the 4th District. Below is a sample of recent transportation announcements and recent project requests on behalf of state and local government.
Recent Project RequestsTitle of Request: West Kellogg/US-54/400 ExpansionProposed Recipient: City of Wichita Amount Requested: $3,200,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to complete final design of plans to grade separate the existing at grade intersections with Kellogg at 119th and 135th St W, allowing it to be "shovel-ready" for future funding opportunities. A portion of the one-way frontage roads on the north and south sides of Kellogg have been constructed. Title of Request: 151st Street Improvements Proposed Recipient: Sedgwick County Amount Requested: $4,750,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to replace the deteriorated cold mix asphalt road on a three-mile stretch of roadway outside of Colwich, Kansas, add appropriate shoulders, and make roadside ditch improvements to better drain the surrounding area. Title of Request: ICT General Aviation Apron Phase II Proposed Recipient: Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) Amount Requested: $14,310,000.00 Purpose: This project would reconstruct approximately 35,000 square yards of apron pavement, construct taxilane fillet, reconstruct and rehabilitate the north T-hangar taxilane, electrical infrastructure to support ground support equipment (GSE) parking, install a deicing/glycol runoff collection and discharge system, relocate and install lights and signs, and install apron area lighting (high mast poles) along the west side of the apron. Title of Request: Rehabilitate Eisenhower Parkway Proposed Recipient: Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) Amount Requested: $4,451,400.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to reconstruct the entrance and exit ramps at Crossfield Road, upgrade the roadway regulatory signage, and upgrade roadway lighting. Title of Request: El Dorado/Captain Jack Thomas Airport (KEQA) AWOS III P System Replacement Proposed Recipient: El Dorado/Captain Jack Thomas Airport (KEQA) Amount Requested: $109,785.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to replace the AWOS III P system at El Dorado/Captain Jack Thomas Airport. Title of Request: Medicine Lodge Municipal Airport (K51) Hangar Construction Project Proposed Recipient: Medicine Lodge Municipal Airport (K51) Amount Requested: $937,800.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to design and construct a new hangar at Medicine Lodge Municipal Airport (K51) to house six to eight planes. Title of Request: Anthony Municipal Airport (ANY) Hangar Construction Proposed Recipient: Anthony Municipal Airport (ANY) Amount Requested: $550,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to construct an eight-bay T-hangar as well as associated taxilanes and a connector taxiway. Title of Request: K-42 Shoulder Modernization Project (Sedgwick County) Proposed Recipient: Kansas Department of Transportation Amount Requested: $5,000,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to rehabilitate a nine-mile stretch of K-42 located in Sedgwick County, add eight-foot shoulders from the Sumner County Line North to the K-49 Junction, add ten-foot shoulders from the K-49 Junction North, and include bridge extension work on four bridges in that nine-mile stretch. Title of Request: K-42 Shoulder Modernization Project (Sumner County) Proposed Recipient: Kansas Department of Transportation Amount Requested: $5,000,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to rehabilitate and add 8-foot shoulders a six-mile stretch of K-42 in Sumner County from 0.2 miles east of the K-2/K-42 Junction to the Sumner/Sedgwick County line. Title of Request: Bridge #279 Replacement on K-96 in Sedgwick County Proposed Recipient: Kansas Department of Transportation Amount Requested: $2,000,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to replace the bridge (Bridge #279) on 45th Street over K-96 westbound and eastbound lanes located at the K-96/45th Street junction. Title of Request: K-96 Expansion Project Proposed Recipient: Kansas Department of Transportation Amount Requested: $7,000,000.00 Purpose: The funding would be utilized to upgrade a portion of K-96 from midway between Oliver Street and Woodlawn Boulevard to midway between Rock Road and Webb Road, expanding from a four-lane to a six-lane freeway, including interchange improvements at the Woodlawn Boulevard and Rock Road interchanges. |
