The honor of attending a U.S. service academy (Military, Naval, Air Force or Merchant Marine) carries a commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Young people who receive an appointment can expect a world-class education accompanied by a full-ride scholarship.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
All candidates living in the 4th Congressional District begin the service academy application process by completing the online form below. A face-to-face interview with Congressman Ron Estes and the 4th District service academy interview board will take place in early November. Congressman Estes will then present a list of nominees to the respective academies for further vetting.
Each Member may nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to our district. To request a service academy nomination from our office, please review the candidate requirements and complete the form below. We encourage candidates to apply for all four service academies through this office as well as through the offices of the two Senators for Kansas.
Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. service academies and serving our country.
