As your Representative in Congress, I am a fierce advocate for free and fair trade and will continue to fight for Kansans amidst trade negotiations. Almost 3,000 jobs in Wichita are affected by tariffs.[1] As the Representative of the Air Capital of the world, I take this fact personally and will continue to commit to providing relief from the ongoing trade war to citizens of the 4th district.
Last year, the U.S House of Representatives passed the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) Act of 2018 by a vote of 402-0. This legislation passed through the Senate shortly after by unanimous consent as well. This law lowered costs for American manufacturers by temporarily reducing and delaying tariffs on products made in other countries. While passing this legislation, Congress strictly followed the procedures set by the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act (AMCA) of 2016. The AMCA created an open and transparent process to provide relief for manufacturers affected by tariffs thus resulting in economic growth in their communities.
Companies that received duty relief under the 2018 MTB Act and want to continue that duty relief must reapply to the International Trade Commission (ITC) this year. If you are an individual or entity likely to utilize, or benefit directly from the utilization of, an article that is the subject of a petition for a duty suspension or reduction, then you might be eligible as a likely beneficiary to receive exemptions.
If you or your business has been negatively impacted by tariffs, I would like to help you. Here are the steps you can take for relief. Please keep in mind that there is a hard deadline of December 10th, 2019.
