WASHINGTON―Congressman Ron Estes released the following statement on the second anniversary of his swearing-in on April 25, 2017.
"It's truly been an honor to represent the people of the Fourth District of Kansas," said Rep. Estes. "As a fifth-generation Kansan who comes home every week, I know the values, work ethic and grit that are instilled in the people of our state. That's why I continue to fight for limited government, quality and affordable health care, free and fair trade, and retirement security." In his first two years in office, Rep. Estes has quickly become a respected leader on trade and retirement security issues and was selected by his peers to serve on the influential Committee on Ways and Means – a rare distinction for a Member of Congress within the first two years of service. In the 115th Congress, Rep. Estes successfully thwarted a proposal at so-called "privatization" of the FAA in order to support general aviation. President Trump signed into law a bill sponsored by Rep. Estes to honor the architect of the now-named "M.S. 'Mitch' Mitchell Floodway" in Wichita. He helped champion the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and led the effort in the House to persuade the Trump administration to reinstate pro-life Title X rules regarding abortion and family-planning tax dollars. Within the first 100 days of this 116th Congress, Rep. Estes has sponsored the Kelsey Smith Act to help law enforcement access cellphone location information in order to save lives. He has also been named as a member of the USMCA whip team because of his fierce advocacy for free and fair trade. At the time of his appointment, Minority Whip Steve Scalise said: “I am glad to have Ron Estes on our whip team as we work to get the USMCA over the finish line. It’s critical that we enact better trade deals that put American workers and consumers first, and Ron’s perspective coming from one of our most important trade states will be a huge asset as we work towards passage.” Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
