Rep. Estes Praises Mexico's Passage of USMCA

Washington, June 19, 2019 | Greg Steele (202-225-6216)
WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas), a member of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) whip team, released the following statement praising passage of the USMCA by the Mexican Senate today, making Mexico the first country to ratify the agreement:

“I applaud Mexico for passing this critical trade agreement and now call on Speaker Pelosi to begin ratification in Congress," said Rep. Estes. "As Canada has also made strides toward ratifying the USMCA, it is past time for Congress to approve it. Every day we delay passage of the USMCA, our country loses out on jobs, higher wages and economic growth for farmers, ranchers and manufacturers across our country. I look forward to working with President Trump and helping advance the USMCA in Congress."

Like many states, Mexico and Canada are Kansas' top two trading partners, worth $4.9 billion annually and supporting 110,000 jobs in Kansas alone. In a Ways and Means Committee hearing today with U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer, Rep. Estes discussed the importance of the USMCA for Kansas and the country. Watch Rep. Estes at today's hearing here.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
