WICHITA—Congressman Ron Estes (R-KS) joined Presidential Advisor Ivanka Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Wichita today to discuss workforce development programs at Wichita State University (WSU) Tech and Textron Aviation. The events highlighted the Trump administration's Pledge to America's Workers, in which more than 300 companies have vowed to create more than 14 million new jobs and training opportunities throughout the country. Following a tour and roundtable discussion at WSU Tech, four aviation companies became the latest to sign the pledge.
"WSU Tech and our community are leaders in workforce development programs that are needed now more than ever, especially as our booming economy has produced more job openings than job seekers for the first time in history," said Rep. Estes. "It was great to highlight these accomplishments with Advisor Trump and Secretary Pompeo, as well as discuss ways to continue growing our economy in Kansas and our country."
The roundtable discussion was hosted by WSU Tech President Dr. Sheree Utash, a member of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board.
Following the Pledge to America's Workers event at WSU Tech, Rep. Estes, Advisor Trump, Secretary Pompeo, Senator Jerry Moran and others toured Textron Aviation's Cessna Citation Longitude manufacturing plant in Wichita.
Last month, the Cessna Citation Longitude received its FAA certification. Prior to today's tour, Rep. Estes published an op-ed touting the importance of the certification and what should be done to continue increasing safety for general aviation. Read the op-ed from General Aviation News here.
Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
