WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-KS) released the following statement on the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
"Today's agreement on USMCA is great news for our country which is far overdue," said Rep. Estes. "President Trump has delivered on another promise and crafted a free and fair trade deal that will create jobs, boost GDP and worker wages, protect digital trade, and open new markets across North America for our farmers, ranchers and manufacturers. I applaud the leadership of the president and Ambassador Lighthizer, as well as my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee and the Republican USMCA Whip Team for our efforts to bring this trade deal to a vote. While Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have stalled a vote on USMCA for more than a year, it is now time to pass USMCA without further delay." Trade with Canada and Mexico reached $1.4 trillion in 2018 and currently supports 12 million jobs in the U.S., including 110,000 jobs in Kansas. The USMCA is expected to generate over $68 billion in new economic activity and create at least 176,000 new jobs. Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
