Rep. Estes Announces 2020 Service Academy Nominees

Wichita, December 20, 2019 | Greg Steele (202-225-6216)

WICHITA–Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) has nominated 22 students for U.S. service academies following an application and interview process that took place Nov. 1, 2019, with several students interviewed by phone on another date.

“Each year I’m always encouraged by the talent and dedication of our District’s service academy applicants,” said Rep. Estes. “While the 22 nominees still have a rigorous journey before they are accepted at a service academy, I’m confident that our country is safer and stronger with these individuals leading our country in the 21st century.”

Students from the 4th District applied and were interviewed by a panel of local community leaders at the Wichita District Office. A one-on-one meeting with Rep. Estes followed their interview.

Every year, Members of Congress may nominate up to ten candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy; the U.S. Naval Academy; the U.S. Air Force Academy; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. Academies make the final selection for appointments based on additional evaluations.
