WICHITA–Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) toured three sites today across the 4th District to discuss how the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will benefit farmers, ranchers and manufacturers. During stops at Klaassen Family Farm in Harvey County, MKC Co-op in Butler County and Cox Machine in Sedgwick County, Rep. Estes heard from employees about the trade deal and other measures impacting the economy. “The USMCA will open new markets and create new jobs for Kansas farmers, ranchers and manufacturers,” said Rep. Estes. “Following last week’s signing of the USMCA, I enjoyed stopping throughout the District to hear how the deal will impact everyday Kansans in ag and manufacturing. As our District depends on global trade, I look forward to working with the Trump administration to secure additional agreements to open more markets around the world for Kansas products.”
Rep. Estes was on hand at the White House last week as President Trump signed the USMCA into law. The trade deal is expected to create nearly 600,000 new jobs and boost U.S. GDP by $68 billion. Trade with Mexico and Canada already supports 12 million jobs in the U.S., including 110,000 in Kansas.
Dallas and Gerri Klaassen operate a 4th generation family farm in Newton where their four sons have also gone into farming. Rep. Estes discussed their business and how trade deals and repealing regulations like Waters of the U.S. benefit Kansas ag producers.
Hardworking Kansas farmers recognize the benefits of open markets and free and fair trade. Rep. Estes discussed the USMCA with Kansans farming throughout the District at MKC Co-op in Benton.
In addition to farmers and ranchers, manufacturers like Cox Machine in Wichita will also benefit from the USMCA. Rep. Estes visited the aerospace industry supplier this afternoon to discuss how the effects of the USMCA will lower metal commodity prices that will assist their business and their customers. While suppliers like Cox face challenges from the 737 MAX production halt, Rep. Estes is hopeful the USMCA and other trade deals can continue to grow our economy.
Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
