WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 3914, which will remove a federal land-use restriction on the Lake Afton property in Sedgwick County:

"Today I introduced legislation that will remove a federal restriction that prevents the development of the Lake Afton property in Sedgwick County," said Rep. Estes. “This restriction, which is over 50 years old, is a great example of red tape sitting on the books in Washington for far too long. I strongly support removing federal land-use restrictions in order to allow our local governments in Kansas the ability to plan for, and to encourage, new development that will benefit our community."

Richard Ranzau, 4th District County Commissioner, voiced his support for the legislation:

"I am very thankful for the efforts of Congressman Estes and his staff on this legislation. This will allow us to regain complete control of the Lake Afton property from the federal government."

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the House Committee on Homeland Security.
