Rep. Estes Announces $2.5 Million in New HUD Funding for Wichita Following Passage of CARES Act

WICHITA–Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) announced more than $2.5 million in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Wichita and communities in south central Kansas. Last week, Rep. Estes voted in support of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that included additional funding for HUD to address the effects of COVID-19.

“The CARES Act was an important step to mobilize the federal government to quickly and efficiently help state and local governments handle the effects of the coronavirus,” said Rep. Estes. “These grants will help Wichita and south central Kansas face the new challenges our community is experiencing during this time.”

The City of Wichita will receive a $1.7 million Community Development Block Grant, which provides flexible funding for infrastructure and public services, as well as an Emergency Shelter Grant for $850,000 to help slow the spread of COVID-19 among the homeless population.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
