Rep. Estes Pursues Further Relief Options for Rural Health Care

WASHINGTON–Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) signed onto a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza requesting expanded support for rural hospitals and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) through the CARES Act's Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

"The Paycheck Protection Program has been extremely successful with small businesses throughout Kansas as they seek to pay workers and operating expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Rep. Estes. "Rural hospitals and Rural Health Clinics owned or operated in some way by a local government should have the same access to this lifeline Congress enacted. For our smaller communities, ensuring their health care workers are paid and facilities can remain open is critical for the health and safety of Kansans."

The House passed the CARES Act on March 27 to provide relief for American families and businesses. Assuring rural hospitals and Rural Health Clinics have access to the PPP eases the burden smaller communities are facing and aligns with Congress' intent. Read the text of the letter with the full list of signers here.
