Rep. Estes Criticizes House Leadership Over Schedule

WASHINGTON – Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released a statement after House Democratic leadership announced the House would not return to work next week.

"Throughout this pandemic, I've been participating in briefings with federal agencies, virtual meetings with constituents and video conferences with organizations and other elected officials," said Rep. Estes. "While work has not stopped for me, our country is in a crisis and lawmakers should be in our nation's capital legislating. Last week Congress successfully voted while maintaining social distancing, and I'm confident we can continue to work safely in the House. Even though I've continued working for Kansans during this Congressional recess, I'm disappointed that Nancy Pelosi has chosen to keep the People's House closed instead of doing the business Americans expect."

Rep. Estes flew to Washington, D.C., last week to vote on additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, testing capabilities and hospitals. Members voted in groups of 60 to maintain social distancing on the House floor.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
