WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) announced a $1,921,422 Department of Labor grant awarded to Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas. The grant will assist Workforce Alliance in providing employment and training services to workers affected by Spirit AeroSystems layoffs, including some at local supply chain companies, due to the Boeing 737 MAX grounding.
"As the Air Capital of the World, our region was greatly impacted by recent production halts, forcing layoffs throughout the aerospace manufacturing supply chain," said Rep. Estes. "As a result, our community worked together through the Air Capital Commitment task force to provide resources and support to affected workers. Today's announcement is yet another way these Kansans and their families can receive the training and employment services they need to stay in our area and weather these uncertain times. I'm grateful for our skilled workforce and am committed to assisting our aviation community." Rep. Estes continues to work with the FAA to define a clear process for recertification, as well as engage with other stakeholders and government leaders to support impacted workers in Kansas. As part of this goal, Rep. Estes and his office are engaged in the Air Capital Commitment, a coordinated effort formed to connect impacted workers with resources and support the region's aviation industry. More information about the Air Capital Commitment can be found at aircapitaloftheworld.com/commitment. Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
