Rep. Estes Applauds $19 Billion in Assistance for American Ag Producers

WASHINGTON – Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released a statement following President Trump’s announcement that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will distribute $19 billion to American agriculture producers.

“Kansas farmers and ranchers are the heart of the Sunflower State – through this health crisis, they’ve continued to feed America and the world,” said Estes. “I’m glad that President Trump and the administration are making agriculture producers a priority and supporting them through this unprecedented time.”

Of this funding, $16 billion will be part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), which will provide direct relief payments to eligible farmers and ranchers. The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will begin taking applications from agricultural producers who have suffered losses on Tuesday, May 26.

In addition, the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box will purchase over $3 billion in American produce, dairy, and meat to distribute locally to Americans in need.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
