Rep. Estes Joins Colleagues in Lawsuit Protecting Constitution

WASHINGTON – Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) joined his colleagues in suing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after House rules were changed, allowing Members to abdicate their responsibility and vote by proxy.
"The unconstitutional rule to vote by proxy empowers House leadership and devalues the representational aspect of our republic," said Rep. Estes. "When Americans vote, they elect their Members of Congress to be their voice in the House, not to give away their voice to someone else. Without assembling, Representatives are not fulfilling their constitutional duty and not serving the people of their states. I was proud to fly to Washington this week to represent the 4th District of Kansas and will continue working on behalf of Kansans." This week approximately 70 Democratic Members of Congress gave their vote to other members instead of showing up for work in our nation's capital. The lawsuit was filed in the D.C. Federal District Court. Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
