WASHINGTON – Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement amid protests and riots in Kansas and across the country.
"Our country continues to react to the terrible murder of George Floyd," said Rep. Estes. "Many Kansans have peacefully rallied to mourn the loss of life and seek positive change in our society. Unfortunately, peaceful protests have been eclipsed by unnecessary violence and destruction of property – even here in Kansas. My conversations with local leaders in the African American community and law enforcement have reinforced my belief that most Kansans are deeply caring people, and that our nation can learn a lot about loving our neighbors from those of us here in the heartland. Last night the president outlined a plan to keep Americans safe from those more interested in terrorizing fellow Americans rather than mourning the senseless murder of George Floyd, and I'm committed to standing with all Americans who seek justice and freedom, love liberty, and promote peace." Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
