Rep. Estes Announces More Than $411,000 in Funding for Wichita Housing Choice Vouchers

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) announced CARES Act funding for the Wichita Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Program. Of this funding, $399,808 will go to the traditional Housing Choice Voucher Program, and an additional $11,230 will be awarded for the Mainstream Voucher Program.

The Wichita Housing Authority’s voucher programs allow families, seniors and those with disabilities to afford housing in the private market. The Mainstream Voucher Program specifically serves non-elderly Americans with cognitive and physical disabilities.

“Kansans continue to face uncertainty and financial hardship due to the economic shutdowns to battle our recent public health crisis,” said Rep. Estes. “It’s critical that vulnerable members of our community have access to safe, reliable housing in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CARES Act allows the federal government to assist Wichita and communities across our state recover.”

Rep. Estes voted in support of the CARES Act, which allocated $472.2 million in flexible funding for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
