Rep. Estes Congratulates the Proposed Kansas Health Science Center's Candidate Status

WICHITA – Today the proposed Kansas Health Science Center-Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KHSC-KansasCOM) announced the receipt of candidate status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Following their announcement, Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) offered his congratulations to KHSC and President Tiffany Masson, Psy.D.

"South central Kansas is building a reputation for our medical expertise – with exceptional hospitals and first-class institutions of higher education," said Rep. Estes. "Today's announcement is another significant milestone in increasing quality, trained medical professionals right here in Wichita, adding to our already stellar nursing, health care and doctoral programs. Since its inception, I've been pleased to offer letters of support and tour the future facility under construction in 2019. Kansans across the state will benefit from more doctors and medical professionals educated close to home."

Rep. Estes penned two letters of support for the proposed Kansas Health Science Center-Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine because of the potential to attract and retain students seeking a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas. The proposed KHSC would bring new construction, jobs, and tenants to Wichita, creating a learning hub with housing and education together.

The candidate status announced today allows the school to begin hiring faculty, proceed with construction, and prepare to apply for pre-accreditation.

Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
