WASHINGTON – Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) applauded new funding from the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation for the Equus Beds Aquifer Recharge Project. Wichita will receive $1 million to fund construction needs related to the aquifer's recharging and recovery. "Investing in the infrastructure of south central Kansas will promote the long-term health and safety of our community," said Estes. "Recharging the Equus Beds Aquifer ensures that we will be able to meet the growing water supply needs of Wichita. As an advocate for this project, I’m grateful for the work of the Bureau of Reclamation to ensure that Wichita has a safe and sustainable water supply." Estes has been a champion of this project, having introduced the Wichita Project Equus Beds Division Authorization Extension Act in 2018 and testifying on a related amendment in 2019. Last week, Estes penned a letter to Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Brenda Burman to support this grant. More information from the U.S. Geological Survey on this project can be found here. Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
