Rep. Estes Votes Against Unacceptable Immigration Policies

WASHINGTON – Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement after voting against two immigration bills that would further expand the crisis at our southern border.

"By removing critical border enforcement measures and offering amnesty to those here illegally, the Biden administration and Democrats are intensifying the border crisis and lawlessness," said Rep. Estes. "Instead of repairing a broken process and focusing on legal immigration, today's vote is essentially Biden's stimulus package for the cartels."

Two important measures removed by the Biden administration which had slowed illegal crossings under President Trump were:

  1. the Migrant Protection Protocols (made asylum seekers wait in Mexico for a hearing before entering the US), and
  2. asylum agreements with countries in Central America that required migrants to claim asylum in the first safe country they entered.
Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means.
