WASHINGTON – The Department of Defense has designated the South Kansas Defense Manufacturing Community (DMC). The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) led the campaign for this designation at Wichita State University. Along with being named a DMC, the region is now eligible for $5 million in funding in support of prototyping.

“South central Kansas is an obvious choice for a DMC considering the region’s extensive academic and commercial research and the national security products we produce,” said Rep. Estes. “This new designation and the funding it will bring support Wichita’s already growing military manufacturing industry, and I am proud to have supported WSU NIAR’s proposal.”  

The South Kansas DMC joins 10 other communities around the country with the Defense Manufacturing Community designation. Rep. Estes joined a delegation letter supporting this DMC. The text of the letter found here.
