Rep. Estes Votes to Sanction Russia, Calls for Stronger Bipartisan Action

WASHINGTON – Last night Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) voted for sanctions on Russia that include banning the purchase of Russian oil while also cosponsoring stronger bipartisan, bicameral legislation he and Ways and Means colleagues had developed.

“I strongly support ending the U.S. importing Russian oil and moving back to American energy independence,” said Rep. Estes. “While the vote to ban Russian oil purchases and sanction Putin was an important next step, however, it was disappointing to see the White House pressure House Democrats into scrapping the much stronger bipartisan bill that was developed in the Ways and Means Committee that would have applied greater pressure on Russia for their atrocities against Ukraine.”
