Rep. Estes Releases Appropriations Statement

Washington, September 29, 2023 | Roman Rodriguez (316-262-8992)
WASHINGTON – Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) issued the following statement after the House passed three more appropriations bills – Homeland Security, State and Foreign Operations, and Defense.

"With Washington borrowing one out of every five dollars it spends – which is about $47,000 every second – it's long been clear to me and is now clear to most Kansans that D.C. has to better steward taxpayers' hard-earned money that is spent by the federal government," said Rep. Estes. "Last year, the House only passed a single appropriations bill but still increased massive amounts of spending that contributed to our $33 trillion debt, which is why I'm so pleased that the House is returning to regular order and has now passed four appropriations bills this year that fund the services Americans need while reducing wasteful spending."

Earlier this year, the House passed the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill, bringing the total number of appropriations bills passed to four. At the same time, the Democratic-led Senate has yet to pass a single appropriations bill this year.
