WASHINGTON – Last week Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) was appointed to the House Budget Committee’s new Budget Oversight Task Force. The formation of the task force follows the Committee’s passage of a budget resolution that would reduce the deficit by $16 trillion and balance the federal budget in 10 years.
"Our government currently borrows one out of every five dollars it spends, which is completely unsustainable, and yet too often taxpayer dollars are used for federal programs that are failing to deliver," said Rep. Estes. "This task force will shine a light on our bloated government’s wasteful spending so we can then implement targeted solutions to get our country back on track." In a press release announcement, Oversight Task Force Chair Jack Bergman (R-Michigan) said, “By promoting accountability, transparency, and program integrity, the Task Force will focus on three key areas of reform: reining-in wasteful spending, right-sizing the bureaucracy, and unleashing economic growth through deregulation.” The Budget Oversight Task Force’s seven members will work to bring fiscal transparency and responsibility to the federal government. This complements Rep. Estes’ longstanding efforts to reduce federal spending, including the recent formation of the Bipartisan Fiscal Forum to address Washington's spending problem. Rep. Estes also supports balanced budget amendments to the U.S. Constitution and offered an amendment in the last Congress to reduce non-defense spending by 1%. |
