Tax Notes Highlights Rep. Estes' Tax Provision Letter, Final 2023 Legislative Week

Washington, December 11, 2023 | Roman Rodriguez (316-262-8992)
Prior to the last legislative session week starting today, Tax Notes highlighted Rep. Estes' push to address expired tax provisions in order to reignite economic growth in their Dec. 8 article, Republican Taxwriters Push for Expired TCJA Tax Provision Work.

"The window may be closing on tax package opportunities for the year, but House Ways and Means Republicans are still trying to push their leadership to act on a legislative fix for expired business tax provisions," Tax Notes wrote on Friday. "While the House has only one more legislative week scheduled for the year, the impact of the expired provisions that have been left unaddressed remains, according to committee member Ron Estes of Kansas," they continued.

"Small businesses and innovators who support countless American jobs are desperate for us to take action on three key tax provisions that, because they’ve expired, have hindered growth and reduced job opportunities for Americans," Rep. Estes said in a statement to Tax Notes. "The House should act now before another year closes on American innovation and entrepreneurship."

Tax Notes wrote, "In their letter, Ways and Means Republicans congratulated Johnson on his election to the speakership before calling the three tax changes essential for the economy, job growth, and U.S. competitiveness globally."

Rep. Estes led the letter to Speaker Mike Johnson, signed by 20 additional members of the House Ways and Means Committee on which he serves, which has jurisdiction over tax policy. You can read the full letter here.

Signers included Reps. Adrian Smith, Jodey Arrington, Vern Buchanan, Mike Kelly, David Schweikert, Darin LaHood, Brad Wenstrup, Drew Ferguson, Lloyd Smucker, Kevin Hern, Carol Miller, Greg Murphy, David Kustoff, Brian Fitzpatrick, Claudia Tenney, Blake Moore, Michelle Steel, Randy Feenstra, Mike Carey and Greg Steube.
