WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement on H.R. 6136, the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act:
“I have supported common-sense measures to fix our broken immigration system, secure our borders, build a wall, close immigration loopholes and provide stability to DACA recipients without providing amnesty or incentivizing anyone to break the law. While today’s bill addressed some of those pillars, I ultimately could not support a bill which provides amnesty and a special path to citizenship to those in our country illegally. We must fix our broken immigration system with compassion and by supporting the rule of law. While Democrats refuse to offer any solutions, I will continue working with President Trump and my colleagues to fix our immigration system and stop families from being separated at the border." Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the House Committee on Homeland Security. |
