WICHITA—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) completed a successful August district work period this week. While the U.S. House of Representatives stood in recess throughout August, Congressman Estes participated in 45 meetings and events in 12 of the 17 counties within Kansas’ Fourth District.

“I travel home to Kansas every week and each district work period throughout the year to meet with constituents and listen to their priorities. The August district work period has allowed me to travel extensively throughout our community and discuss important issues like our growing economy, the need for free and fair trade, the status of the Farm Bill, and our work to support veterans,” said Congressman Estes. “We have accomplished a great deal in Congress this year including tax cuts and the VA MISSION Act, but there is much more to do. As Congress returns next week, I look forward to continuing our work on ensuring tax dollars don’t flow to abortion providers through upcoming funding bills, getting the Farm Bill over the finish line, advocating for free and fair trade, and making middle-class individual and small business tax cuts permanent.”

Supporting small businesses and growing our economy
This month Congressman Estes discussed the growing economy with small businesses and groups throughout the district including the West Wichita Sunrise Rotary Club, Realtors of South Central Kansas, Carr Auto-Electric in Pawnee County, Tiger Town Pizza in Stafford County, Hibbard Drug in Barber County, Dave’s Pizza in Comanche County, Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce, SBA Wichita District Director, Integrated Components in Wichita, Graves Drug Store in Cowley County, and Kansas Castings in Sumner County. During a stop at Legacy Bank in Wichita, Congressman Estes applauded the company for being the latest to announce increased wages for employees thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. To ensure people continue to be trained for jobs of the future, Congressman Estes also cut the ribbon on the Cowley College Sumner Campus Technology and Innovation Center in Wellington.

Supporting veterans and our military
Congressman Estes also spent time meeting with veterans throughout August during a veteran-focused town hall event, helping to open a new affordable housing community for veterans in Valley Center, and addressing the Veteran Awareness Expo in Wichita. Congressman Estes discussed how the VA MISSION Act which was passed in Congress this year revolutionizes health care for veterans by streamlining services and allowing veterans to have more choices for care at the VA or a private doctor closer to home. To support our military, Congressman Estes also participated in a demonstration of the new F-35 aircraft and touted the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act which provides the largest troop pay raise in nine years and critical investments in our military, including more aircraft for McConnell Air Force Base.

Supporting Kansas Agriculture
To discuss Kansas agriculture and recent developments with trade, Congressman Estes met with farm bureaus in Edwards, Pratt, Sedgwick and Sumner Counties. Congressman Estes has been a consistent advocate for free and fair trade and has encouraged the Trump administration to open more markets through free and fair trade to benefit Kansas farmers, manufacturers and workers. Congressman Estes also discussed agriculture during stops at the Offerle Co-op, Golden Belt Feeders cattle feed operation in Stafford County, with members of Kansas Corn, and at county fairs in Butler, Cowley, Harvey and Sumner Counties.

Since entering office, Congressman Estes has met with constituents in all 17 counties of Kansas’ Fourth District. Rep. In that time, Congressman Estes has sponsored and cosponsored 123 bills and cast 1,084 votes, including voting for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which lowered taxes for families and businesses throughout the country. In Kansas, an average family of four will see a $2,291 savings thanks to the law.
