WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) announced today he is withholding his salary due to the partial government shutdown. The announcement came following a vote by U.S. House Democrats to defeat a Republican motion that would have allowed federal workers impacted by the partial shutdown to receive their January paycheck.

“Throughout the ongoing partial government shutdown, I have called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in Congress to negotiate with President Trump to secure our border and reopen government. Unfortunately it is clear Democrats are not interested in engaging in serious negotiations and are willing to use federal workers as pawns,” said Rep. Estes. “Today, Democrats defeated a Republican motion in the House that would have allowed federal workers impacted by the partial shutdown to receive their January paycheck. In light of this action, I have asked my paycheck to be withheld at this time and once again call on Democrats to come to the table to address the crisis at our border and reopen government.”

Rep. Estes sent his request in a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives.
