WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to President Donald Trump that the U.S. House of Representatives would not consider a resolution authorizing the president’s State of the Union address:
“By attempting to block President Trump’s State of the Union, which a president has a Constitutional responsibility to present, Speaker Pelosi is thumbing her nose at democracy,” said Rep. Estes. “After law enforcement agencies addressed security questions first raised by Speaker Pelosi, today’s action proves that Democrats are more concerned with scoring political points than ending this shutdown. This unprecedented new low does nothing to solve the issues at hand of securing our border and reopening government and only seeks to further divide Congress and our country." Ron Estes is a 5th generation Kansan and represents Kansas’ 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. |
