R&D Expensing Bill Surpasses 100 Cosponsors

WASHINGTON – The American Innovation and R&D Competitiveness Act, H.R. 2673, introduced by Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) in April now has more than 100 cosponsors as the list of supporters continues to grow. In addition to Rep. Estes and lead Democrat Rep. John Larson (D-Connecticut), the bill’s more than 100 cosponsors are split evenly along party lines – signaling a high level of bipartisanship and support for this legislation.

Estes published an op-ed in The Hill highlighting this milestone and touting the benefits of the bill. "The legislation is simple — it allows for immediate expensing on eligible R&D costs, bringing us back to where we were just a few years ago and helping us secure our dominance in research and development," writes Rep. Estes. "Not only has this bill gained traction in Congress, but it's widely supported among industry leaders."

On Tax Day, April 18, Reps. Estes and Larson reintroduced H.R. 2673 – the American Innovation and R&D Competitiveness Act. They were joined by Reps. Darin LaHood (R-Illinois), Suzan DelBene (D-Washington), Jodey Arrington (R-Texas), Jimmy Panetta (D-California) and 60 additional original cosponsors. In early June, this legislation was included in the House Ways and Means economic package – the Build It in America Act, which was reported out of committee. Rep. Estes delivered remarks on the House floor in April and numerous organizations offered their support following the bill’s introduction.
