WASHINGTON—Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) announced a $7 million Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant from the FAA to the City of Newton to reconstruct the taxiway at the Newton City-County Airport.
“While rail traffic is a visible mode of transpiration in and around Newton, air traffic continues to be vital to our region,” said Rep. Estes. “The grant from the FAA recognizes the importance of safe and reliable air travel through their Airport Improvement Program, and I’m thankful to Secretary Chao and the Trump administration for moving this important grant forward.” “The robust economy is enabling more passengers to travel by air so this Administration is investing billions of dollars in America’s airports which will address safer operations, fewer airport delays, and greater ease of travel for air travelers,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao. The grant amount awarded is $7,178,799. This is the second grant awarded by the Department of Transportation to our region announced this week, highlighting our growing area and the importance of the Newton City-County Airport to south central Kansas.
